In the year of 1997 I think, the series of 'Monster Rancher' (Monster Farm, モンスターファー; Monsutā Fāmu) began on Playstation: a simulation where you are a licensed monster tamer, and your job is to live on a ranch and raise different monster races. The monsters vary: Some are peaceful; some are violent in nature and difficult to raise. Reconciling with your monster 'friend' depends on your raising routines, either you spoil them or abuse them up to the point where they won't listen to you - these monsters have feelings and differences, and that's why this is an addictive game. Now, not ALL of the races are open to you: There are some unlockables or secret monsters (ie: Centuar, Dragon, Henger, Phoinex etc). Plus, it's not all about raising your pet; to become a great monster tamer, you got to increase your rank and participate in tournaments. There's a lot of things, go try it out if you can

A year or two after the game, the sequel (which I own) AND the exciting ANIME series came out. The dubbing cast was cool (Ie: Brian Drummond as 'Tiger' and Scott McNeil as 'Gray Wolf/Suezo'), but what was really bad about the anime dubbing was that it was SOOOO censored, censored BAD, but I still enjoyed it. In U.S, I think it went off the air in 2002. Cool interactivity between the characters, different monsters, fights. IT WAS the anime that inspired me to make this fanfic series.

It started off in 1999, with "Howl of Gray Wolf", and I had little contemplation when it came to storyline: It was very linear, and it was mostly about battle and tight friendships. The characters differed but their goals were similar: To unite and kill the main antagonist (because of their own reasons), and those who stood by him. I STILL like Monster Rancher and I still play MR 2 on my Playstation, because I still have some more unlockables. Some of my favorite monsters are phoenix, centaur, zuum, durahan and joker.

Setting

Howl of Gray Wolf is set on a world similar to Earth but with two continents. The starting year is 804 AP or After Pangaea.

Monster Breeder Organizations

FIMBA
Abbreviation for Fight International Monster Battle Association, of eastern continent. It is derived from the national monster battle association (モンスターバトル協会) of the same name introduced in the game Monster Rancher 1. Original meaning from game version is unknown.
IMA
Abbreviation for Independent Monster Association, of western continent. It is derived from the monster battle association (モンスターバトル協会) of the same name introduced in the game Monster Rancher 2. The game version possibly means "Island Monster Association".
Universal Hu-mon Enact
Also called UHM, the Enact is a law to enforce the safety between human and monsters. FIMBA and IMa, although on separated continents, recreated the strong bond between man and human through this after the Ancient Monster war many years ago.
Hu-mon Hazard Relief Agency
An original concept for the fanfiction. Affiliated with FIMBA and IMA, the Hu-Mon Hazard Relief Agency follow the Universal Hu-mon Enact. The Agency consist of legal registered trainers (both monster and breeder) who devote their skills in protecting both races from harm. They are in charge of handling situations involving non-docile or aggressive monsters. Notable members of this agency are Holly and Hunter.
